Botox vs. Dysport: Which Is Right for You?

Botox vs. Dysport: Which Is Right for You?

When it comes to smoothing wrinkles and preventing new ones from forming, neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport are the gold standard. Both are FDA-approved, safe, and highly effective — but they have subtle differences that may make one a better fit for your goals. At Nurture Wellness & Aesthetics, we also offer Xeomin and Daxxify, giving you a full range of options to choose from.

How Neuromodulators Work

All neuromodulators work by temporarily blocking nerve signals to specific muscles, reducing their ability to contract. This softens existing dynamic wrinkles (the ones caused by facial movement) and prevents new ones from forming. The result is smoother, more relaxed-looking skin that still allows natural facial expressions when administered by a skilled provider.

Botox: The Classic Choice

Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002 and is the most widely recognized name in aesthetic injectables. It's incredibly versatile and is used to treat forehead lines, crow's feet, frown lines (the "11s"), and even conditions like TMJ, migraines, and excessive sweating.

  • Onset: Results typically appear within 3-5 days, with full effect at 2 weeks
  • Duration: Lasts approximately 3-4 months
  • Best for: Precise, targeted treatment areas
  • Dosing: Standard units with well-established dosing protocols

Dysport: The Spreader

Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) uses the same type of botulinum toxin but has a slightly different formulation. Its molecules are smaller, which allows it to spread more easily across larger treatment areas. This makes it particularly effective for broader muscle groups like the forehead.

  • Onset: Often kicks in faster, within 2-3 days
  • Duration: Also lasts approximately 3-4 months, though some patients report slightly longer results
  • Best for: Larger treatment areas like the forehead, patients who want faster onset
  • Dosing: Uses more units per treatment area (different conversion ratio from Botox)

Other Options: Xeomin and Daxxify

Xeomin is a "naked" neurotoxin without additional proteins, which may reduce the risk of developing antibody resistance over time. It's an excellent option for patients who have been using Botox or Dysport for years and notice diminishing results.

Daxxify is the newest FDA-approved neuromodulator and is notable for its longer duration — lasting up to 6 months for some patients. It uses a unique peptide technology instead of human serum albumin, making it the first filler-free formulation.

Which Should You Choose?

The best neuromodulator depends on your specific goals, anatomy, and treatment history. During your consultation at Nurture Wellness & Aesthetics, your provider will assess your facial muscles, discuss your desired outcome, and recommend the product that will give you the most natural, effective results.

Many of our patients try different products over time to find their perfect match. The good news is that all four options are safe, effective, and deliver beautiful results when administered by an experienced provider.
